Niagara Wine Culture
For over 200 years, The Niagara Peninsula has been known for growing grapes and turning them into wine. From humble beginnings, winemaking around the region has flourished into a ripe network of wineries and vineyards. We owe many thanks to the community of experienced and dedicated winemakers who keep the vines growing and wine flowing, paving the way for the growing industry we know today. Yet wineries and vineyards are about more than just growing grapes and pressing wines. They encapsulate a lifestyle and offer a full-spectrum experience. From tours and tastings to dinners, events, and getaways, Niagara wine culture is world-class.
Wine Culture in Niagara is celebrated three times per year in the Niagara Ice Wine, Homegrown Wine, and Grape & Wine Festivals, in January, June, and September, respectively. Running two consecutive weekends, these festivals give you a one-of-a-kind taste of local wines, cuisine, and entertainment. Check out the Niagara Wine Festival website for the latest itineraries and countdown to the next event. While most features are 19+, The Grape & Wine Festival in Septembers offers a host of family friendly fun, activities, and entertainment.
Can’t make it to the festivals? Book a private tour instead and make a the most of it. Wine tasting with cheeses and horderves followed by some fine dining perfectly paired with with a glass pinot, or do you prefer a cab-sav? With some wineries offering lodging on-site, you can enjoy as much as you like! Find a new favourite and stock up, or impress your friends with limited release vintage. With over 100 wineries and counting, Niagara has your wine needs covered.
If you’re still not convinced, wine has been receiving more and more praise for its health benefits (when enjoyed in moderation). For starters, it contains antioxidants and can boost the immune system. It’s been known to increase bone density and reduce cholesterol, as well as the risk of stroke, heart disease, and Type 2 Diabetes. All the more reason to bring some home as a souvenir.
The Niagara region has so much to offer in terms of adult fun, from the famed Falls and parklands, to luxurious casinos, the Skylon Tower, and a thriving wine culture. The hardest part is trying to fit it all in! Rest assured that our Revolving Dining Room has a long list of Niagara wines that you can browse here.
